What should I do if there’s a gas leak?

Smell gas? Here’s what to do.

If you smell gas near an appliance, turn it off straight away and contact a registered gasfitter (you can search for one online). Still smelling gas after turning off the appliance?

DO THIS:

• Turn off the gas supply at the bottle or meter (if safe to do so)

• Open windows and doors for ventilation

• Call our team on 0800 762 542 to report the issue.

DO NOT do this:

• Do not turn on or off any lights or electrical appliances – it could create a spark

• Do not use your phone near the suspected leak

• Do not try to find the leak yourself

• Do not use matches, lighters or cigarettes in the area.

If you smell gas out in the street, call 111 for emergencies or contact your local gas network operator.
